Dear Editor,
I wanted to write to you in response to the letters recently published about the lack of security in our industry’s composite doors. As a composite door supplier that has invested time and money in improving the security of our doors a long time before Document Q came into force, it’s disappointing to see this negative press for the sector. Unfortunately it is necessary as people need to be aware of the facts, but disappointing none the less.
It appears there are doors being sold by suppliers who need to take security more seriously. It’s also true that the Approved Document Q should be the wake-up call the industry needs. However, we shouldn’t forget that there are companies that are already getting it right. We may be in the minority and that is absolutely something that should be addressed, but not all composite doors are the same. We’ve been ready for Document Q for years and have been open and honest about our test results with video footage that we have made public.
DOORCO wants to encourage other suppliers to show the same level of integrity to help fabricators and installers – most of whom do want to do the right thing by their customers and supply quality, compliant and secure products.
Yours sincerely
Dan Sullivan
Managing Director, DOORCO
