Following a surge in Stable Door sales, Ellie Lee, DoorCo’s marketing manager, explores the wider opportunities for back door sales in this latest Door Trends column.
Earlier this year, we discussed what opportunities were available with Stable Doors and we are delighted to report our predictions rang true. The recent out of season heatwave sent a flurry of Stable Door enquiries that we have passed on to our customers, resulting in a significant jump in sales for our purpose-built product.
Customers are loving the options available in our Stable Door range, from the various designs to the exclusive glass options, colours and the market-leading Winkhaus stable door locking kits and Stormguard weather bars, which can be painted to match the door colour for a seamless finish.
Stable Doors are perfectly placed as a back door to a home thanks to the way they improve ventilation without compromising on security, but this has led us to consider what other doors work best in other less obvious areas of the home. The ideal scenario for any door supplier is an order for suite of doors (and windows) in one home.
Why push to upgrade a back door?
Upgrading a back, side, outbuilding and even garage doors should be a consideration for any homeowner for one simple reason: security. According to the 2025 Burglary report, around a quarter of all home burglaries happen through the back door, and in damage reports, most cases (66%) homeowners reported damage to an outside door.

The BRiTDOR Collection
Our solid-timber core product is multi-purpose. It is a great front door with strength, security, durability, and style, but this also works all around the home, particularly with the recent addition of Short Doors to the range. Short Doors have been re-engineered to bring all the benefits of a BRiTDOR to any non-standard entrances – and there are many: Older homes, terraces, cottages, listed buildings, side or back doors, garages, sheds, outbuildings, home offices, to name a few.
There are 49 different short door designs in varying sizing options, starting from minimum widths of 332mm and minimum heights of 1555mm. They also come with 3 types of Winkhaus STV Thunderbolt Locking Kits and can be prepped for any handle, hinge and letterplate.
Scaling up for modern homes with Eaton
Of course, non-standard entrances could also be larger, especially in new homes that are built to be more accessible. In steps Eaton, from our ORiGINAL foam-core range. Eaton doors measure an impressive 950mm x 2100mm and combine traditional panel looks with modern proportions and performance. There are eight different designs in the collection, with Tatton being a great option for a back door, letting light flood into the home through its large glazed top panel. It is a great upgrade to Lytham, which has been widely used in back doors across the UK for years with some of them now with colour-faded cassettes – not something that happens with FLiP, which is standard on all our doors.
